NICKY
Master Barber
Owner

Nicky developed an appreciation for barbering because of Carl, his neighbor who cut hair on the front porch of his home in Philadelphia. Carl gave Nicky his first pair of clippers when he was 12 and mentored him through his first haircuts. At a young age, Nicky knew he wanted to be a professional barber someday.

For over 22 years now, Nicky has been a passionate student of Tonsorial Arts and Men’s Grooming. In 2008, he got an opportunity to open his first barbershop. Since then, he has grown it into a place that celebrates modern men with treasured values of old America. Now, Nicky has four shops and plans to open more.

With the desire to revive the lost art of barbering, Nicky also established Modern Male Barber Academy in 2018. He teaches aspiring barbers classic grooming techniques with modern barbering style and flair.

More importantly, he teaches the value of “the barber as gentleman” experience. He wants future barbers to be role models for young men today. After all, a haircut only lasts two to three weeks. But teach a young man respect; that can last a lifetime.

VINNI
Barber Instructor

Vinni’s background is in teaching, but after taking a job out of college as a gym teacher, he realized his passions lie elsewhere. In 2014, his big brother, Nicky, offered to enroll him in a Barber Apprentice Program in Modern Male Barbershop.

After completing the program, Vinni got his barber license and continued to be mentored by senior barbers. This continual training has made his scissor work versatile across many different hair types and styles. Vinni’s favorite part of the trade is the connection he has built with his clients and the exchange he has had with amazing people over the years. With his charisma and background in teaching, Vinni took over Nicky’s Barber Apprentice Program in 2017. He also helped Nicky formalize the program by turning it into a barber school — the Modern Male Barber Academy. Through this school, Vinni continues to help young men and women hone their skills to be the best barbers they can be. Join Modern Male Barber Academy today and be mentored by Vinni.

Ray
Barber Instructor

Born and raised in Telford, I moved to Harrisburg to attend The Barber Styling Institute where I earned my Barber License in 2007.

I’ve been with Modern Male since 2012 and consider myself a veteran of the Modern Male Team. My specialty is skin fades, flattops, straight razor outlines, and traditional taper haircuts. I have a belief that a great haircut transforms a man and bolsters his self-esteem. When you look good, you feel good and you perform life’s tasks more confidently. With all that said, I have developed a passion for passing along what I have learned to future Barbers and that is why I love to be an instructor as well. Teaching keeps me relevant in the industry and at the same time able to teach those who desire to hone their skills.

JUSTIN
Barber Instructor

Justin tried his hand at hair cutting while he was at Fort Pickett in Virginia, where he served as an Army National Guard for over a decade. Since then, he has developed a strong passion for the fine art of barbering.

In 2016, Justin completed his course in Premier Barber Institute. After that, he met Nicky and other gentlemen barbers of Modern Male Barbershop. When he found out about their apprentice program, he knew he wanted to be part of their team as a barber instructor. Justin specializes in flattops, low fades, and crew cuts. But he never hesitates to try new styles, making him proficient in a broad range of techniques and looks. When Justin isn’t in the barbershop cutting hair or teaching students the art of barbering, he’s at home honing his culinary skills. He loves serving food for his family and friends. His motto, after all, is “There’s nothing like a good barbecue on a Sunday with good people!” Enroll in Modern Male Barber Academy and learn a thing or two about barbering from Justin. Who knows, you might not only earn a mentor but also a friend who would always invite you to his Sunday barbecues.
KARL  Barber Instructor

Cutting hair has been a passion for Karl. He never stops improving his skills; he practices new techniques to see what new looks he can create for his clients — and share with students and junior barbers.

But for Karl, it’s always been about more than just a haircut. Karl enjoys building strong relationships with his clients. Knowing each customer — their interests and lifestyle— enables him to create the best look for them. When Karl is not at the shop or the barber school’s clinic floor, he’s likely playing music, composing songs, or just spending an afternoon listening to good music. Learn barbering techniques from Karl while having a chat about music and life. Sign up for a program in Modern Male Barber Academy today.
