MMBA History
The MMBAcademy curriculum, developed by Head Master, Nicky the Barba and his team of barber Instructors, is based on the very latest teaching methods. This approach enables our students to learn, practice, and develop their skills in a manner that suites their learning style and natural skill level.
We have developed a unique teaching approach that blends a style of traditional grooming techniques with modern barbering style and flair. Students experience a well-rounded education that positions them for a successful career in the field.
Instructors use a combination of hands-on, interactive training with classroom instruction, including lectures and quizzes, group activities, visual aids, demonstrations, work on live models and a host of other engaging approaches. Our instructors have trained and mentors may barbers on advanced barbering techniques over the years.
Apprentice Program
Prior to opening the school, we developed the Modern Male Apprentice Program to give young people an opportunity to learn a trade. Our goal was to enable them to generate a decent income for themselves and their family, and to become productive members of the community.
Pennsylvania law allows licensed barbers with a barber training license to apprentice two people per shop to become eligible to take the state test to become a licensed barber.
In the 15 years we ran the apprentice program, we prepared almost 50 people to pass their state board and become licensed barbers. As we grew the Modern Male Barbershops from one shop to four shops over 10 years, we gave our barbers an opportunity to fulfill the requirements to become licensed barber instructors and licensed barber managers.
